As of June 2017, Common World Inc. will no longer be selling or supporting FirstClass. Starting July 2017, our service contracts will not support FirstClass Servers or any FirstClass Solution. We will be pushing new communication software and solutions for our clients and customers that best fit their needs. FirstClass 16.1 Release

I'm happy to announce that  FirstClass 16.1 is out with a host of great new features.

FirstClass 16 Release

OpenText has rebranded FirstClass 12.2 version to FirstClass 16. (no you didn't miss a few releases)

I'm happy to announce that  FirstClass 16 is out with a few great new features, including:

Dynamic Configuration Tool Web Interface
•    Allows for parameters and server statistics to be changed or monitored "on the fly" with no restart of FCWS required.

Full oAuth2 client and server support
•    Please see the release notes for FCWS and FCEIS for more information about this feature and setup.

Multi-Person Chat
•    Allows for multiple users when using chat.

Custom Client forms Display
•    The feature that many have been waiting for.  You can now use your FirstClass custom forms with FCWS. This will require conversion of existing forms using the FirstClass® Designer 16 application that was shipped last week.  Please refer to the documentation with FirstClass® Designer 16 release notes for more information.

End Of Life for DoubleCheck

Im sad to announce the End Of Life for DoubleCheck.

Dec 2016 will be the last update for DoubleCheck. This means that we will be looking for a replacement to this great Spam/Virus service. Any of our clients using DoubleCheck will need to be moved to a new service before Dec 2016 and should be in contact with us before July.

Our hosted DoubleCheck service will also have to end. This is a heartbreak for us and our customers who use it. At $1/user/month for corporate and $3/user/year for education this was an amazing service at the price. It was a great service at any price. Our research will start soon to find a replacement. I have no doubt that the cost to replace it will increase to no less than $3/user/month - our customers will need to budget for this change.

As it is the beginning of the budget season, please feel free to contact me any time to go over your 2016/2017 budgets. As stated above, hosting costs will increase.

FirstClass Mobile Updated

OpenText has been pushing out rapid updates to both FirstClass Mobile and FirstClass Go.

Im happy to announce that the FirstClass Mobile Client has been updated and will continued to be supported with the latest FirstClass Server as well as the newer mobile client FirstClass Go. This will make many of our clients happy as they really liked the older FirstClass Mobile Client and wanted to see it continue to be supported. I urge you and your staff to update your FirstClass mobile clients. Looking at the OT roadmap, i see that updates will be released often to the FC mobile platform - keep checking for updates as they will have new features and bug fixes in every release. If you find any issues or have any questions, please let me know.

FirstClass 12.1 SP1 Released

FirstClass® 12.1 SP1 has been released. Please contact us if you have any questions or need any services. We will be contacting and updating all our RA Contract customers in the next Month after some 'real world testing'.

FC Core Server New Features
  • Added the ability to change the number of directory threads at startup
  • Added the ability to change the number of encryption threads at startup
  • Added the ability to configure the maximum number of failed login attempts on a per group basis
  • Added the ability to auto-create contacts for external recipients.
  • Added video chat support between Web Services and clients that support it.
FCIS New Features
  • No new features - only supptive updates to SP1
FCWS New Features
  • Added Peer to Peer video chat. (Firefox and Chrome web browsers only) Requires FCS 12.1 SP1 Build 2162
  • Added the ability to import and export of Contact Database files to and from FCWS
  • Added the ability to import and export of Calendar event and task files to and from FCWS
  • Added the ability for users to create and manage their Voice Greetings (requires FirstClass Voice Services)
  • Added the ability for users to insert their voice on email.
  • Added the ability for users to create items such as sub-calendars (AKA Punch Through) within main calendar
  • Added the ability to specify OpenSSL cipher acceptance in order to avoid use of vulnerable ciphers.

FC Core Server New Features
  • Assignable Calendar Tasks - The ability to assign tasks to other users.
  • File Locking - Allows for published FirstClass Documents to be edited over multiple sessions - Prevents others from being able to edit via the client or WebDAV
  • Large 64-Bit File Support - Added the ability to upload and download large files.
  • Licensing - Archive Server Licence Enforcement
  • Mail Delivery - Reporting of MTA tasks to include currently active and peak usage.
  • RSS Feeds - RSS feeds will run in its own task to prevent the server start from being delayed
  • Search - numerous improvements to Search and indexing.
  • Voting - Ability to "Like" or "Rate" items.
  • WebDAV - Generate WebDAV URL links that the FCWS client to use

FCIS New Features
  • Elliptic Curve Certificates (ECC) - Added support for ECC, needed to support Forward Secrecy (aka Perfect Forward Secrecy)
  • CalDAV - The feature provides access to a user's FirstClass calendar via HTTP.
  • CardDAV - This feature provides access to a user's FirstClass contacts via HTTP
FC Desktop Client New Features
  • 64-Bit file transfers - For upload; attach; download, can now upload large files (2.1gb or more). Requires a 12.1 or later FirstClass Server.
  • Multi-Word Filter - Allowing users to "filter" a container using multiple words.
  • Assignable Calendar Tasks - Allows users to assign tasks to others.
*Note:
  • Update Internet Services to version 12.1 PRIOR to updating your FirstClass Server in order for  specific calendar fix to work as expected.
  • If you are running FirstClass Archive Services, it is recommend that you update it prior to the core server, so that you can take advantage of a number of new features, including large file transfers.
  • As always, we advise to let a few weeks pass before any major updates are installed.

FirstClass 12 Mobile Service Pack

Im happy to announce the release of FirstClass 12 Mobile Services Pack.  This release will be broken down into a few parts.  First, the FirstClass Server and FirstClass Client will be sent via the FC Updates Gateway which will arrive to sites who have a valid maintenance and support agreement shortly. Followed shortly by FirstClass Web Services.

Internet Services and the new Mobile client releases will follow over the course of the next couple of weeks. This will provide FirstClass Administrators an opportunity to upgrade their systems in preparation for the FirstClass mobile clients release that will require these new builds be in place.

Heartbleed OpenSSL Bug

FirstClass is NOT vulnerable to Heartbleed. There is no vulnerability.

It should be noted that if you are running FCWS on Linux, then your Linux distro may be vulnerable.  An OS such as CentOS may use the vulnerable package(s).

FirstClass 12 Code-A-Thon

FirstClass 12 Code-A-Thon
A programming contest for web developers to build applications for FirstClass. $2000 prize for top winner (Plus iPads & more)

With FirstClass 12, you can build web applications that run within the new web client but are hosted on any web server. These External Applications can use special calls to the FirstClass server to access user information and store and retrieve user specific application data on the server that can be used in your applications.

The FirstClass API will allow you to build applications that are entirely outside of the FirstClass environment, but let you access and manipulate authenticated content from your FirstClass server.  These applications can be written in your language of choice.

Build the application of your choice!  Perhaps you're looking to integrate with other systems at your workplace, or to build an app that will leverage other external web applications.

FirstClass iOS Mobile Updates

A few days ago an updated version of the iOS Mobile Application for FirstClass (11.028) that has an issue with display.

In short, the tops of objects such as mail items would not be visible to the reader.

An updated version has already been submitted to the App Store to correct this issue. We are all waiting for Apple to make that update available to customers. (11.029)
